Galadirlel Mellion, a sophomore at Weston Ranch High in California, won the girls invitational shot put with a second-round mark of 44-2.50 (13.47m) at the West Coast Relays at Veterans Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High in Clovis, Calif. Mellion is the state leader at 44-4 (13.51m), but has decided to have May 20 surgery on her right knee and will not complete the season. Mellion also finished sixth in the invitational discus with a throw of 136-11 (41.73m).
